A True Democracy
The way our government works is that every citizen that is willing and able to participate in politics does participate. Every voice is heard, and weighs equally. Every and any citizen may voice their opinion, propose new/changes to/removal of laws, cite examples of corruption and seek remediation, or claim dissatisfaction with the current head of state, the Consul, and request a reelection, et cetera. When a citizen reaches the age of 17 they may join the Senate, the government body, and have nearly full immersion in the political world. Once one reaches the age of 20, or have been involved in the Senate for three years, they may run for Consul. Religion may not influence laws, unless it's directly applied to all religions only (example: All religious groups and sites may not be targeted by any hate campaign or any conspiracy to lessen their value or significance.)
A Non-Democratic Founding
Although we fight to protect democratic rights and the rights of humankind, the Antiquitian Empire was not founded democratically. The original founder, Divis Trevus, had to forge his lands out of already discovered land in a time when nothing was unexplored. He took the uninhabited lands that are now part of our micronation, and used it as a birthplace of protest to the route the world was heading and way culture had degraded. He took from Ancient Rome the title Divis that Caesar held, and used it to reach back to a time of greatness. We will never try to hide this fact, or morph it. His rule is not a cruel dictatorship like so many seen in the 20th and 21st centuries. The Senate will never, and has never been obstructed by our founder, unless they threaten the very state itself or it's basic principles that it was founded on. Once a substantial amount of citizens is accumulated, he will resign as the divine and run like others for the title of Consul.
